諸比丘T01n0001_p0001b14於乞食後集花林堂各共議言:「諸賢比丘T01n0001_p0001b15唯無上尊為最奇特神通遠達威力弘大T01n0001_p0001b16乃知過去無數諸佛入於涅槃斷諸結使T01n0001_p0001b17滅戱論又知彼佛劫數多少名號姓字T01n0001_p0001b18所生種族其所飲食壽命脩短所更苦樂T01n0001_p0001b19又知彼佛有如是戒有如是法有如是慧T01n0001_p0001b20有如是解有如是住云何諸賢如來為善T01n0001_p0001b21別法性知如是事為諸天來語乃知此事?」

諸比丘對曰:「今正是時T01n0001_p0003c13願樂欲聞!」

佛告諸比丘:「諦聽諦聽善思念T01n0001_p0003c14吾當為汝分別解說比丘當知諸佛常T01n0001_p0003c15毗婆尸菩薩從兜率天降神母胎T01n0001_p0003c16右脇入正念不亂當於爾時地為震動T01n0001_p0003c17大光明普照世界日月所不及處皆蒙大T01n0001_p0003c18幽冥眾生各相覩見知其所趣此光明T01n0001_p0003c19復照魔宮諸天沙門婆羅門及餘眾生T01n0001_p0003c20普蒙大明諸天光明自然不現。」佛時頌曰

諸比丘當知諸佛常法毗婆尸菩薩在母T01n0001_p0004a01胎時專念不亂有四天子侍護T01n0001_p0004a02人與非人不得侵此是常法。」T01n0001_p0004a03佛時頌曰

又告比丘:「諸佛常法毗婆尸菩薩從兜率T01n0001_p0004a11天降神母胎專念不亂母身安隱無眾惱T01n0001_p0004a12智慧增益母自觀胎見菩薩身諸根具T01n0001_p0004a13如紫磨金無有瑕穢猶如有目之士T01n0001_p0004a14觀淨琉璃內外清徹無眾障翳諸比丘T01n0001_p0004a15此是諸佛常法。」爾時世尊而說偈言

太子初生父王槃頭召集相師及諸道術T01n0001_p0004c21觀太子知其吉凶諸相師受命而觀T01n0001_p0004c22前披衣見有具相占曰:『有此相者當趣T01n0001_p0004c23二處必然無疑若在家者當為轉輪聖王T01n0001_p0004c24王四天下四兵具足以正法治無有偏枉T01n0001_p0004c25恩及天下七寶自至千子勇健能伏外敵T01n0001_p0004c26不用天下太平若出家學道當成正T01n0001_p0004c27十號具足。』諸相師即白王言:『王所生T01n0001_p0004c28有三十二相當趣二處必然無疑在家T01n0001_p0004c29當為轉輪聖王其出家成正覺十號T01n0001_p0005a01具足。』」佛時頌曰

是時父王慇懃再三重問相師:『汝等更觀太T01n0001_p0005a27子三十二相斯名何等?』時諸相師即披太子T01n0001_p0005a28說三十二相:『一者足安平足下平滿T01n0001_p0005a29地安隱二者足下相輪千輻成就光光相照T01n0001_p0005b01三者手足網縵猶如鵝王四者手足柔軟T01n0001_p0005b02如天衣五者手足指纖長無能及者六者T01n0001_p0005b03足跟充滿觀視無厭七者鹿上下𦟛T01n0001_p0005b04八者鈎鎻骨骨節相鈎猶如鎻連九者T01n0001_p0005b05陰馬藏十者平立垂手過膝十一一一T01n0001_p0005b06毛生其毛右旋紺琉璃色十二毛生右T01n0001_p0005b07紺色仰靡十三身黃金色十四皮膚細軟T01n0001_p0005b08不受塵穢十五兩肩齊充滿圓好十六T01n0001_p0005b09胸有萬字十七身長倍人十八七處平滿T01n0001_p0005b10十九身長廣等尼拘盧二十頰車如T01n0001_p0005b11師子二十一胸膺方整如師子二十二口四T01n0001_p0005b12十齒二十三方整齊平二十四齒密無間T01n0001_p0005b13十五齒白鮮明二十六咽喉清淨所食眾味T01n0001_p0005b14無不稱適二十七廣長舌左右舐耳二十T01n0001_p0005b15梵音清徹二十九眼紺青色三十眼如牛T01n0001_p0005b16眼上下俱眴三十一眉間白毫柔軟細澤T01n0001_p0005b17引長一尋放則右旋螺如真珠三十二頂有T01n0001_p0005b18肉髻是為三十二相。』」即說頌曰

於時菩薩欲出遊觀告勅御者嚴駕寶車T01n0001_p0006a26詣彼園林巡行遊觀御者即便嚴駕訖已T01n0001_p0006a27還白:『今正是時。』太子即乘寶車詣彼園觀T01n0001_p0006a28於其中路見一老人頭白齒落面皺身僂T01n0001_p0006a29拄杖羸步喘息而行太子顧問侍者:『此為T01n0001_p0006b01何人?』答曰:『此是老人。』又問:『何如為老?』T01n0001_p0006b02:『夫老者生壽向盡餘命無幾故謂之老。』T01n0001_p0006b03太子又問:『吾亦當爾不免此患?』答曰T01n0001_p0006b04生必有老無有豪賤。』於是太子悵然不T01n0001_p0006b05即告侍者迴駕還宮靜默思惟:『念此T01n0001_p0006b06老苦吾亦當。』」佛於是頌曰

T01n0001_p0007a09太子問沙門曰:『剃除鬚髮法服持鉢T01n0001_p0007a10所志求?』沙門答曰:『夫出家者欲調伏心意T01n0001_p0007a11永離塵垢慈育群生無所侵虛心靜T01n0001_p0007a12唯道是務。』太子曰:『善哉此道最真。』尋勑T01n0001_p0007a13御者:『賷吾寶衣并及乘轝還白大王我即T01n0001_p0007a14於此剃除鬚髮服三法衣出家修道T01n0001_p0007a15然者欲調伏心意捨離塵垢清淨自居T01n0001_p0007a16以求道術。』於是御者即以太子所乘寶車T01n0001_p0007a17及與衣服還歸父王太子於後即剃T01n0001_p0007a18服三法衣出家修道。」

佛告比丘:「太子見T01n0001_p0007a19病人知世苦惱又見死人戀世情滅T01n0001_p0007a20見沙門廓然大悟下寶車時步步中間轉T01n0001_p0007a21遠縛著是真出家是真遠離彼國人聞T01n0001_p0007a22太子剃除鬚髮法服持鉢出家修道咸相謂T01n0001_p0007a23:『此道必真乃令太子捨國榮位捐棄所T01n0001_p0007a24。』國中八萬四千人往就太子求為T01n0001_p0007a25弟子出家修道。」佛時頌曰

太子即便納受與之遊行在在教化T01n0001_p0007a29從村至村從國至國之處無不恭T01n0001_p0007b01敬四事供養菩薩念言:『吾與大眾遊行諸國T01n0001_p0007b02人間憒閙此非我宜何時當得離此群眾T01n0001_p0007b03閑靜之處以求道真尋獲志願於閑靜處T01n0001_p0007b04專精修道?』復作是念:『眾生可愍常處闇冥T01n0001_p0007b05受身危脆有生有老有病有死眾苦所T01n0001_p0007b06死此生彼從彼生此緣此苦陰流轉T01n0001_p0007b07無窮我當何時曉了苦陰滅生?』

復作T01n0001_p0007b08是念:『生死何從何緣而有?』即以智慧觀察T01n0001_p0007b09所由從生有老死生是老死緣生從有起T01n0001_p0007b10有是生緣有從取起取是有緣取從愛起T01n0001_p0007b11愛是取緣愛從受起受是愛緣受從觸起T01n0001_p0007b12觸是受緣觸從六入起六入是觸緣六入T01n0001_p0007b13從名色起名色是六入緣名色從識起T01n0001_p0007b14是名色緣識從行起行是識緣行從癡起T01n0001_p0007b15癡是行緣是為緣癡有行緣行有識T01n0001_p0007b16識有名色緣名色有六入緣六入有觸T01n0001_p0007b17緣觸有受緣受有愛緣愛有取緣取有T01n0001_p0007b18緣有有生緣生有老苦惱T01n0001_p0007b19苦盛陰緣生而有是為苦集菩薩思惟T01n0001_p0007b20集陰時生智生眼生覺生明生通生慧T01n0001_p0007b21生證

毗婆尸佛於閑靜處復作是念:『我今已得T01n0001_p0008b16此無上法甚深微妙難解難見T01n0001_p0008b17智者所知非是凡愚所能及也斯由眾T01n0001_p0008b18生異忍異見異受異學依彼異見各樂所T01n0001_p0008b19各務所習是故於此甚深因緣不能解T01n0001_p0008b20然愛盡涅槃倍復難知若為彼必T01n0001_p0008b21不解更生觸擾。』作是念已即便默然不復T01n0001_p0008b22說法

梵天王知毗婆尸如來所念即自思T01n0001_p0008b23:『此世間便為敗壞甚可哀愍毗婆T01n0001_p0008b24尸佛乃得此深妙之法而不欲說。』T01n0001_p0008b25如力士屈伸臂頃從梵天宮忽然來下T01n0001_p0008b26於佛前頭面禮足却住一面梵天王右膝T01n0001_p0008b27著地叉手合掌白佛言:『唯願世尊以時說T01n0001_p0008b28今此眾生塵垢微薄諸根猛利有恭敬心T01n0001_p0008b29易可開化畏怖後世無救之罪能滅惡法T01n0001_p0008c01出生善道。』

佛告梵王:『如是如是如汝所T01n0001_p0008c02但我於閑靜處默自思念所得正法甚T01n0001_p0008c03深微妙若為彼說彼必不解更生觸擾T01n0001_p0008c04我默然不欲說法我從無數阿僧祇劫T01n0001_p0008c05苦不懈修無上行今始獲此難得之法T01n0001_p0008c06為婬癡眾生說者必不承用徒自勞疲T01n0001_p0008c07此法微妙與世相反眾生染欲愚冥所覆T01n0001_p0008c08不能信解梵王我觀如此是以默然不欲T01n0001_p0008c09說法。』

梵天王復重勸請慇懃懇惻至于T01n0001_p0008c10再三:『世尊若不說法今此世間便為壞敗T01n0001_p0008c11甚可哀愍唯願世尊以時敷演勿使眾生T01n0001_p0008c12墜落餘趣!』爾時世尊三聞梵王慇懃勸請T01n0001_p0008c13以佛眼觀視世界眾生垢有厚薄根有利T01n0001_p0008c14教有難易易受教者畏後世罪T01n0001_p0008c15惡法出生善道譬如優鉢羅花鉢頭摩華T01n0001_p0008c16勿頭華分陀利華或有始出汙泥未T01n0001_p0008c17至水者或有已出與水平者或有出水未T01n0001_p0008c18敷開者然皆不為水所染著易可開敷T01n0001_p0008c19世界眾生亦復如是

爾時世尊告梵王曰T01n0001_p0008c20吾愍汝等今當開演甘露法門是法深妙T01n0001_p0008c21難可解知今為信受樂聽者說不為觸擾T01n0001_p0008c22無益者說。』

爾時梵王知佛受請歡喜踊躍T01n0001_p0008c23遶佛三匝頭面禮足忽然不現其去未久T01n0001_p0008c24是時如來靜默自思:『我今先當為誰說法?』T01n0001_p0008c25自念言:『當入槃頭城內先為王子提舍T01n0001_p0008c26臣子騫茶開甘露法門。』於是世尊如力士T01n0001_p0008c27屈伸臂頃於道樹忽然不至槃頭城T01n0001_p0008c28槃頭王鹿野苑敷座而坐。」佛於是頌曰

首陀會天知如來心譬如T01n0001_p0010a04力士屈伸臂頃從彼天沒忽然至此於世T01n0001_p0010a05尊前頭面禮足却住一面須臾白佛言:『T01n0001_p0010a06世尊此槃頭城內比丘眾多宜各分布T01n0001_p0010a07處遊行至於六年乃還此城說具足戒T01n0001_p0010a08我當擁護令無伺求得其便者。』爾時如來T01n0001_p0010a09聞此天語默然可之
